License your dogs. Dogs must be licensed annually between June 1 and 30.
There is a $1.00 per month per dog penalty after June 30. See dog license fee schedule below.
Be sure to vaccinate your dog(s) against rabies and against the deadly parvovirus.
2024 Rabies & Parvovirus Vaccine Clinic
Dog Ordinances Adopted by the Common Council as of July 1, 2014
All dogs being registered must have both rabies and parvovirus vaccination presented. A $99 fine will be assessed by the New Britain police department if your dog has not been given the parvovirus vaccination. The town clerk's office will continue to issue your dog license and tag.
Breeding Permit
Effective July 1, 2014, if you breed your dog(s), a new breeding permit is required through the police department. The breeders permit is $100. The animal control officer must inspect the premises used for breeding purposes.
Breeding permit holders must apply for a litter permit for each litter with the animal control division at the police department. The litter permit fee is $25. A maximum of two (2) litters per year is allowed. There will be a fine of $250, you will be responsible for all boarding fees for impounded dogs, and a charge of $20 per dog if you do not obtain a breeding permit.
Vicious and Dangerous Dog Registration
The police department can register your dog(s) as vicious or dangerous if your dog(s) has attacked, bitten, or injured human beings without provocation. In this case, your dog will be registered with the animal control division as vicious or dangerous; your dog must be microchipped and activated with the microchip company; signs must be posted on the residence of the dog; your dog must be muzzled when not inside the residence; your dog will not be left outside unattended; and your dog must be confined where it will not have access to children.
Neighborhood Dog License Survey
The New Britain police department and animal control are conducting a neighborhood survey to ensure all dogs are licensed. Save money and time by licensing your dog(s) today.
