While we accept land recordings in our office, we encourage the use of the Connecticut Cott land records portal. Currently over sixty Connecticut towns are available online 24/7. New Britain's digital indexes and images are available from October 1958 using this portal. 

Images prior to October 1958 are available using the historic land records index. In the last name field enter deeds and search. All volumes prior to October 1958 will display. Select the volume. The entire volume will open and will take a few extra seconds to load and display. Find the pages you wish to view, determine the print range and print out those records. The link is: Land Records

New Service: You can now request certified birth, marriage or death records, or uncertified adoptee original birth records conveniently and safely using your smartphone, tablet, laptop, or computer. We also accept secure payment for these documents via our new on-line service 24/7. Turnaround time will reduce significantly.

BIRTH, MARRIAGE,DEATH Records Application Forms

Per Public Act 23-44, effective July 1, 2023, applicants must be at least 18 years of age to apply and be married in Connecticut.

Couples must first complete the online application using Marriage Marshal and submit it to this office. Please schedule an appointment with this office prior to 3:00pm to complete your marriage license.

Once the appointment is scheduled, the couple must come to the office and each provide a government-issued ID (driver's license or passport). We will review, print out the necessary paperwork, and issue you both the oath. Marriage licenses are valid for 65 days from the date of Town Clerk issuance to the couple.

DIVORCE DECREE

The Town Clerk's Office does not maintain divorce decree records.

You will need to contact the Clerk at the New Britain Superior Court for assistance (860-515-5180).

Funeral directors, this office will process your death certificates, burial permits, and cremation permits using the Connecticut Department of Public Health's (DPH) new Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS).

According to the Connecticut Department of Public Health (DPH), if the cause of death states COVID-19 you must complete the communicable disease section.

With EDRS, there will no longer be a need for sub-registrars.

Per order of the DPH commissioner, Town Clerks/Registrars can only issue burial permits if the death occurred in their town OR the town where the body is being prepared for disposition.
