Speed Safety Program

Key Points about the City of New Britain's Speed Safety Program

  • All violations are reviewed by a City of New Britain police officer before being issued
  • There will be a 30-day warning period for each location
  • Speed Cameras are only activated when speeding is detected
  • No images of the driver will be captured
  • Vehicle owners will receive a citation via mail
  • Citations do not go towards points on your license
  • The fine for a first violation is $50 and subsequent violations $75
  • A $15 processing fee for each citation will be collected
  • All revenue must go towards roadway safety improvements in New Britain
  • All personally identifiable information will be deleted after the violation is adjudicated

The City of New Britain’s Implementation Plan

  • Total of 12 Speed Enforcement Locations and two Red Light Enforcement Locations
  • The first two sites will start a warning period on August 31st with fines starting October 1st
    • Slater Road @ Jefferson Elementary School
    • East Street near Chamberlain Elementary School
  • Two more sites will begin a warning period on October 1st and fines starting November 1st
    • South Main Street @ New Britain High School
    • Slater Road @ Gaffney Elementary School
  • Sites will continue to be added each month until all locations are active
