Pavement Management Program

New Britain's over 165 miles of City streets are one of the City's most important and most valuable assets, and maintaining these streets is one of the Public Works Department's most important responsibilities.  New Britain Public Works manages the condition of the city streets by following a comprehensive Pavement Management Program approach.  Programs such as the Annual Paving Program, Trench Repair Program, and Crack Sealing Program are part of this approach, and we are always looking for ways to improve our operations.  This web page provides detailed information about the current year’s programs as well as other related information.

2021 Annual Paving Program

Mayor Erin Stewart and the New Britain Public Works Department announce the start of the 2021 Pavement Rehabilitation Program.   This work will be performed by contractors retained by the City and is scheduled to begin mid-July, and is expected to last approximately six weeks.  For the majority of streets the rehabilitation work involves milling off the top 2” of existing pavement and then installing 2” of new pavement.

The schedule below provides a tentative day for work to begin on each street and is subject to change based on weather, contractor production or other factors.
