Discrimination

It is unlawful to discriminate in any credit transaction, including loans or mortgages based on race, sex, disability, or any other protected classification.

It is unlawful to terminate or refuse to hire, promote, or any other term/condition of employment due to age, sex, pregnancy, disability, race, creed, or any other protected classification.

It is unlawful to refuse entry/service (or segregation) in a restaurant, or other public establishment because of race, sex, disability, or any other protected classification.

It is unlawful for anyone to retaliate against you for filing a discrimination complaint or for opposing discrimination.

It is unlawful to make unwelcome sexual advances as a condition of employment or promotion, or which creates an offensive working environment.

• Refuse to rent to you or sell you housing
• Refuse to provide you with information regarding mortgage loans, deny you a mortgage loan, or impose different terms or conditions on a mortgage loan
• Tell you housing is unavailable when it is in fact available
• Deny you property insurance
• Show you apartments or homes only in certain neighborhoods
• Conduct property appraisals in a discriminatory manner
• Set different terms, conditions, or privileges for sale or rental of a dwelling
• Refuse to make reasonable accommodations for persons with a disability if the accommodation may be necessary to afford such a person a reasonable and equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling
• Provide different housing services or facilities
• Fail to design and construct housing in an accessible manner
• Advertise housing to preferred groups of people only
• Harass, coerce, intimidate, or interfere with anyone exercising or assisting someone else with his/her fair housing rights

With the approval of the aggrieved person, communication to the appropriate enforcement agency is initiated for filing a formal complaint. You will be asked to provide the following information:

• Name, address and phone number where you can be reached
• Name and address of the person(s) your complaint is against
• The address and the identification of the locations involved
• A short description of what occurred and the reason why you believe your rights were violated
• The date(s) these events occurred
• The HRO personnel provides aggrieved person with procedural guidance, informational materials and brochures on the laws, and as appropriate, links aggrieved person with the appropriate departments and/or enforcement agencies, via referrals.
