A Buzzing Summer Awaits the Residents of New Britain

It is finally summer time here in New Britain, and if you have lived in this City for any extended period of time then you know this means there is bound to be a whole list of fun activities for those of all ages to enjoy. Summer was certainly NOT cancelled last year, and we are bringing that same energy back for Summer 2021!

The temperatures are already starting to rise, so be sure to bring your children to cool off at the splash pads located at Chesley Park and Willow Brook Park, which opened on Memorial Day. The pools at A.W. Stanley Park and Willow Street Park will open on June 19th and reservations will not be required this year. However, be aware that the City may need to limit the number of people on the pool deck in order to adhere to COVID-19 guidelines.

Our Parks and Recreation and Community Services Department has been working hard to plan numerous activities for the entire family to enjoy throughout the summer. Registration for Camp TotalRec, Camp Clubhouse, Leaders in Training, and Downtown Players is now open, but space is limited so be sure to sign your child up today!

The 7th Annual New Britain Rose Garden Festival will take place on Saturday June 19th at the Rose Garden at Walnut Hill Park. This is the flagship event of summer that so many look forward to every year. Attendees are able to enjoy fun music and delicious food among the hundreds of multi-colored, full bloom roses on display at historic Walnut Hill Park. The popular Summer Music Series will also take place at Walnut Hill Park, every Monday and Wednesday evening beginning July 5th and ending on August 30th.

If you love fresh produce, artisanal goods, and family fun activities, then the New Britain Farmers Market in Central Park is for you! This farmers market will be in Central Park from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Wednesday from June 2nd through October 27th.

The Great American Boom fireworks show will take place on July 4th at Willow Brook Park this year due to the dredging of the pond at Stanley Quarter Park, and we will wrap up the summer with the "Celebrate New Britain!” street festival in Downtown New Britain on September 25th & 26th. This event will be the culmination of all the 150th Anniversary celebrations that have been happening throughout the year. Trust me, you won't want to miss this!

Visit for more information on any of these events, or call our Parks and Recreation Department at 860-826-3360. Follow @nbparksnrec, or me, @erinstewartct, on Facebook for the latest updates on activities throughout the entire summer. Summer is a beautiful time of year in New Britain and I hope you will join me in enjoying the numerous activities the City has planned for our residents over the next few months.
