City of New Britain Announces Housing Lottery, Homeownership Opportunity for First-Time Homebuyers

NEW BRITAIN – New Britain Mayor Erin Stewart announced today that the City of New Britain is offering a lottery for the purchase of two newly remodeled homes located at 63 and 66 Cottage Place. The lottery will take place on October 17th, 2020 at 10am on site.

“We are very excited to be offering this wonderful opportunity to first-time homebuyers,” said Mayor Erin Stewart. “Encouraging ownership and investment in the community is a huge priority for my office and the Department of Community Development. We’ve seen substantial growth in the City over the past few years and know that the demand for New Britain is high – everyone wants to experience the NEW. We anticipate and welcome a lot of competition for these properties.”

To be eligible for the lottery, entrants must be present for the lottery drawing, submit a mortgage prequalification letter with the stated amount, and submit a DCD application to the Department of Community Development at the City of New Britain. Potential buyers may submit their names for each individual property, but may only purchase one. Additional details are included below:

  • Down-payment assistance is available to qualified buyers.
  • Owner-occupancy is required.
  • Resale restrictions apply for fifteen years.
  • Purchase price is non-negotiable.
  • Individual(s) must be first-time homebuyer(s) or must not have owned a home within the past three years. 
  • Individual(s) must successfully complete the NHS Track One Homeownership Training Class.
  • Individual(s) must present a pre-approval letter from a qualified mortgage lender necessary to complete this transaction.
  • Individual(s) must not exceed HUD income limits.
