UNDER CONNECTICUT FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

 

Section 1-212(a) of the Connecticut General Statutes provides in part “Any person applying in writing shall receive, promptly upon request, a plain, facsimile, electronic or certified copy of any public record.  . .”  The request shall be directed to the appropriate City department.  The fee is generally fifty (.50) cents per page and pre-payment may be required if the fee is estimated to be ten dollars or more.

 

            Section 1-206(a) of the Connecticut General Statutes states that a denial of a records request by the City of New Britain shall be in writing within four business days of the receipt of the request.  In accordance with subsection (b)(1) of Section 1-206, any appeal must be filed with the Freedom of Information Commission within thirty (30) days of the denial date.  The Freedom of Information Commission is located at 165 Capitol Avenue, Suite 1100, Hartford, CT 06106 and their telephone number is (860)566-5682.

 

            Section 1-241 of the Connecticut General Statutes provides that a public agency may seek in juncture relief from frivolous, unreasonable or harassing Freedom of Information appeals.
