Commission on the Arts

CALL TO ARTISTS

The New Britain Commission on the Arts has several purposes.  Among the most important purposes are to:
  • Create and administer the Percent for the Arts Public Arts Program
  • Select artists for the Art in the Heart of the City exhibits
  • Advise the Mayor on all matters of public art

Members of the Commission on the Arts: 

Duane Pierre, Chairman
Duane P. Pierre is the founder and Executive Director of ParaDYM Academy. ParaDMY Academy uses digital, visual arts and science to train students in workforce development and entrepreneurship.  Duane serves on the Technology Advisory Committee for OIC of New Britain and is the Chairperson of the New Britain Art's Commission. 
Dale Whalen
Born in New Britain, raised in Southington, and a New Britain resident for the past 40 years.  Holds an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Post College, Waterbury, Ct. I’m a retired Early Childhood Educator. I was employed at Our Lady of Rose Hill Day Care, YMCA in New Britain, and the Hospital of Special Care Childcare Center, in New Britain. Art Commissioner since 2020 Board member of the Art League of New Britain; Member of the New Britain Museum of American Art.
Leslie White
Raised in Berlin, Leslie has been a New Britain resident for the last 20 years. She works for the Connecticut Department of Labor in the First Employment Services Unit. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Graphic Design from Marymount University in Virginia. Leslie served as President of the Suburban Woman's Club of Greater New Britain from 2018-2020. She also a member of the NBMAA, Art League of New Britain and has been a City Arts Commissioner since 2020. 
Aimee Bianca
A native of New Britain, Aimee Bianca is a painter, photographer, and writer who has been studying art since she was a teenager. After attending a special program for young artists at the University of Hartford while in high school, she then went on to continue studying art at Boston University. Aimee stretches her love for art into every area of her life. She’s just as happy to be painting a face with makeup, as she is, pushing paint around a canvas. Aimee currently works as a hair and makeup artist within the entertainment industry, working such platforms as Broadway musicals, New York Fashion Week and the Met Gala. Aimee brings a sincere love and passion for the arts to New Britain, a community she is proud to call home.

The Arts Commission meets at 6:30PM on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at City Hall Room 202.
