City of New Britain Seeks Community Input on Identifying 150 Community “Gems” as Part of the City’s Sesquicentennial Celebrations

New Britain, CT – Mayor Erin E. Stewart announced today that the City of New Britain is inviting the entire community to help celebrate the City’s Sesquicentennial by collaboratively identifying the top 150 “gems” that make New Britain special. These “gems” can be a person, place or event and the final list will be used to help promote the aspects of the City that help make New Britain a vibrant place to live, work and play.

“As a lifelong resident myself, I am personally aware of how special this city truly is and I want to bring this knowledge to the masses,” said Mayor Erin Stewart. “This list will highlight the uniqueness within our community and serve as a valuable resource for those looking to explore New Britain.”

Over the past 150 years as an incorporated city, New Britain has cultivated a rich history that truly sets it apart from other Connecticut towns. The parks, restaurants, events, businesses, and individuals that make up the culture of this community are all crucial pieces of this history and deserve to be recognized. The City of New Britain wants to hear directly from the residents on what “gems” should be on this list and how they help make the City of New Britain special.

The final list of 150 “gems” will be highlighted at the Celebrate New Britain event to be held on September 25-26, 2021 in Downtown New Britain. The items on this list will also be an integral part of an exciting interactive mobile app that will help users navigate the city and personally experience each of these “gems”.

Those interested in submitting a nomination should go to www.newbritainct.gov and click on the “Nominate A Gem Here” tab. Nominations will be accepted now through March 31st. For more information please contact Eric Dowling at eric.dowling@newbritainct.gov.
