The City of New Britain will start its Annual Water Main Flushing Program starting on April 13th, 2020 as required by the state of Connecticut’ Department of Public Health Regulations. The City’s intends to flush the entire city [click HERE for area and street map]. Additionally the Water Department will flush all the dead-end lines within the entire distribution system.
Due to a very wet Spring, our reservoirs are near capacity and a full flushing program will be implemented. As you see hydrants being opened, please remember that this process is needed to maintain the City’s high level of water quality. Water quality testing will continue to ensure compliance with all Department of Public Health Standards. Annual water main flushing and water testing is done to provide City residents with water of the highest quality that our residents have come to expect over many years.
We anticipate the program to be completed on June 26th, 2020 with work being done on first and/or second shifts to minimize water gutter flow during peak traffic times and disruptions to water services. Please excuse any temporary discoloration and reduced pressure while the hydrants are opened to flush our water mains.
Please contact the water department with any questions or concerns at (860) 826-3536.
