DEDICATION CEREMONY FOR NEW BORINQUENEERS MEMORIAL IN NEW BRITAIN


WHAT:

Mayor Erin Stewart, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, the Governor of Puerto Rico, members of the New Britain Latino Coalition, and other officials will hold a dedication ceremony for a new monument honoring the 65th Infantry Puerto Rican Regiment of the United States Army. 

WHEN: Saturday, April 28, 2018 at noon.

WHERE:      

At the intersection of Beaver Street, Washington Street, and Farmington Avenue (across from the New Britain Fire Department Headquarters – 255 Beaver St.) Parking will be severely limited in the surrounding areas. It is strongly encouraged that attendees park at the Badolato, Parking Garage, which is accessible from Washington Street or Columbus Boulevard. Parking is free and complimentary shuttles will be going back and forth from the site between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

BACKGROUND: 

The dedication ceremony is to mark the opening of one of the largest monuments outside of Puerto that recognizes the contributions of the Borinqueneers 65th Infantry Unit. This outfit was the largest and longeststanding active duty military unit in U.S. history, based out of Puerto Rico. Construction began in July of 2017. Hundreds of people are expected to attend Saturday’s event, including state and federal dignitaries, along with the Governor of Puerto Rico and senators.

The ceremony will feature the singing of the American and Puerto Rican anthems by special musical guests, the raising of flags, a presentation of City of New Britain Veterans Medals and Congressional Medals, and other festivities.
