Installment of Taxes Due
Notice is hereby given that the 1st installment of Taxes due based on the October 1, 2010 Grand List
is DUE AND PAYABLE during July, 2011.
The 2nd installment is DUE AND PAYABLE during January, 2012 and is for Real Estate.
Supplemental Motor Vehicle Taxes
are Due and Payable in January as well. (See Tax Bill Payment Schedule
below for clarification). Supplemental Motor Vehicle Taxes apply to:
- Newly registered vehicles between October 2, 2010 and July 31, 2011.
- Temporary commercial plate vehicle registration between October 2, 2010 and September 30, 2011.
These bills are not to be confused with the regular motor vehicle bills, which were due and payable July 1, 2011.
The last day on which to pay without penalty for the 1st installment was Monday, August 2, 2011
for the 1st installment and Wednesday February 1, 2011 for the 2nd (by 10 PM).
Tax Bill Payment Schedule For The Tax Year
- Real Estate: Two installments, due July 1 and January 1
- One three-part bill issued in July
- Downtown District Special Service: Two installments due July 1 & January 1.
- One three-part billed is issued in July.
- Personal Property: One installment, due July 1
- Motor Vehicle: One installment, due July 1
- Supplemental Motor Vehicle: One installment, due January 1

Past, current and future amounts due may be paid through this website, with the
following exceptions:
- Real Estate: If your account was turned over to the City's Corporation
Counsel or an attorney - additional fees may be due. Payment must be made to the
attorney.
- Personal Property: If your account was turned over to a Marshall --
collection fees are due and payment must be made to the Marshall.
- Past due Motor Vehicle and Supplement Motor Vehicle bills: Taxes due for
Grand List years 1996 to 2008 are now in collection and have additional fees due
not included in your online balance. Please contact the Tax Office
(860-826-3317) to obtain the collection fee amount before paying your bill(s).
Once your correct amount due is obtained, and are paying the balance in full (by
credit / debit card or checking account & routing #) you may then do so.
However, if you want to set-up an arrangement for partial payments, you need to
contact the collection agency (EOS- CCA) directly @ 1-800-325-0389. Payment on
these years is gladly accepted in the Tax Collector’s Office if the account is
being paid in full only! Accepted payment forms are: cash, money order or
certified check only. If a debit card was used to pay past due motor vehicle
taxes and a release for registration is needed, proof that the transaction has
cleared your bank is required.
- If your account/amount due does not appear on the website, you can not pay it
electronically. Please contact the New Britain Tax Office for payment
information and options at (860) 826-3317.
Payments using this website for the current real estate and motor vehicle taxes
due July 2011 must be made by 6 PM on the deadline date of August 1, 2011 when
paying by credit card to get same day credit. Payments by debit card do not
qualify for same day credit as they can take 2-4 days longer to clear. Payments
for past due accounts must be made by 6 PM on July 30, 2011 by credit card to
get same day credit, avoid additional interest. Use of a debit card will incur
July interest as it takes longer to process.
As owners of property, you are responsible for paying the taxes when due whether
or not you are eligible to Pay through this website and whether or not you
received your original tax bill(s). Failure to receive a bill does not exempt a
taxpayer from the payment of all taxes and any interest or collection costs
should they apply. Interest is charged on all late payments from the tax’s
original due date at the rate of 1-1/2 percent per month (or fraction thereof),
18 percent per annum. There are no exceptions to this policy. It is required by
statute. The minimum interest charge is $2.00 on each tax bill. The returned
check fee is $20.00. The City of New Britain is not responsible for losses
incurred as a result of using this website for tax payments.
