"A walk through Walnut Hill Park," created by CCSU students Amy Kirby and Aileen Bastos, is a fifteen minute video describing the history of the Frederick Law Olmsted designed masterpiece. The tour starts with the walking path on North Main Street, going up to the World War I monument, then down to Ledgers Way and around the one mile loop. The tour takes people to various locations throughout the park sharing pictures and stories detailing the entire history of the park. "This is a great way to teach people about Walnut Hill Park and the historic significance it has within the National Park System," said Parks and Recreation Director Bill DeMaio. "We are really excited to continue this project and ideally have a podcast for every major park in New Britain."

The project was created in conjunction with Bill DeMaio and a Central Connecticut State University History class taught by Professor Leah Glaser. "Professor Glaser presented the idea to me and I was very excited about the opportunity," said Mr. DeMaio. "I am not aware of any other Parks and Recreation Departments in the country that offers a walking tour of a park through an IPod."

The Parks and Recreation Department thanks Professor Leah Glaser, Amy Kirby, Aileen Bastos, and Eric Hartsock for their hard work in developing the Walnut Hill Park podcast. Very special thanks goes to New Britain Public Library History Room Coordinator Patricia Watson and Phil Barlow from TO Design for providing a majority of the historic information and pictures of Walnut Hill Park.

Enjoy the show!
