A Message from Mayor Tim O’Brien
Landlords who don’t take care of their properties are putting their tenants at risk as well as decreasing property values across the city. We have a strong anti-blight code but it only works if people use it. Please join us in fighting back against blight by calling the Mayor’s Office at 860-826-3303 to report blight in your neighborhood. Since elected to office, we passed two strong blight ordinances that are already showing positive results in the fight to clean up New Britain. These ordinances hold absentee property owners accountable for maintaining their properties and levies fines for those who don’t comply.
Some landlords are fighting our efforts. Some are even spreading dangerous and false information to their tenants about 911 calls. NO RESIDENT WILL EVER BE CHARGED FOR 911 EMERGENCY CALLS. Public safety is our number one priority. Always call 911 if you or someone you know is in danger. The “hot spot” ordinance was put in place to target quality of life issues such as repeated calls to an address for public nuisances. But it does not apply to emergency calls made to 911.
Our strong anti-blight and hot spot ordinances will help hold landlords accountable for the condition of their properties, and make New Britain a better place to live for all of us.
The Honorable Tim O’Brien, Mayor
